What is a Inmate Number (DOC #)? DOC stands for Department of Corrections. It is a number that the state and federal prisoners are given. It is in their ad, and you must include it in their address for them to get mail.
I feel nervous about writing a prisoner, what should I do? Only tell what you want them to know, prisoners are just like people on the streets -- some good and some bad. Always use common sense. Some people will use a PO Box to write inmates.
How do I get a prisoner listed? Complete all requirements on the How to Join page.
How many prisoners can I write? There is no limit. Pick as many as you can be a good pen pal to and write.
How do I contact the prison office? Simply write to the same address that your pen pal is at, only do not put their name and DOC # on the envelope with the address. Instead, write PRISON ADMINISTRATION and then ask your questions.
How do I find out a criminal history on a person? Contact the prison which the prisoner is located. Every county, state and federal prison has different rules for getting such information.
